Regional Models are decision support tools that provide planners and decision makers with information to help them effectively allocate resources. The Triangle West Transportation Planning Organization is responsible for developing the long-range Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), the biennial Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), the Congestion Management Process, major transit investment studies, and several corridor studies. The travel demand model and land use model play a central role in creating the demographic and transportation forecasts that are critical for making project and policy choices in these studies and plans. The Air Quality model uses output from the Travel Demand model to calculate the hazardous emissions from the transportation sector. Household Travel Surveys and Transit Onboard Surveys serve as foundational data sources for developing regional travel demand models. Details about the models can be found below:
