The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) conducted a corridor study of US 15-501 between NC 54 in Chapel Hill to US 64 in Pittsboro. The object of the study was to identify policies and facilities, including the possibility of adding travel lanes that will keep the roadway functioning properly as a major arterial. The TPO participated in the study and the evaluation process included the solicitation of public comments. The study results will be incorporated into the TPO's long-range plans such as the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) and Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP).
